Sistan & Baluchestan province is located in the southeast of Iran and after Kerman is the second largest province in the country. The province, with an area of about 181785 square kilometres, covers more than 11 percent of Iran's vast territory. Sistan & Baluchestan has 1100 km border with Pakistan and Afghanistan, and 300 km border with the Oman Sea. It is the only province in Iran that has a joint border with Pakistan, and this is extremely important due to its strategic positioning and transit, especially the port of Chabahar- the only Iranian oceanic port- the easiest and the best way to connect central Asian countries to free waters.
The province, based on the latest changes, composed of 19 cities including Zahedan, Zabul, Zahak, Nimroz, Hamoon, Hirmand, Mirjaweh, Iranshahr, Chabahar, Khash, Dalgan (to Gelmorti centre), Zabuli (Mehrestan), Saravan, Sarbaz (to the centre of Raask ), Sib-Suran (to the center of Suran), Fanuj, Qasrkand, Konarak and Nick-Shahr. This vast province also consists of 48 sections and 37 smaller cities.
The largest and most populated city in the province is Zahedan and the smallest is the small town of Sarbaz. The people of Sistan and Baluchestan province are mostly of Sistani and Baluch ethnicity, The Sistani speak Persian in Sistani dialect; The Baluch speak Baluchi language.
The city of Zahedan is limited to Hamoon and the "Lut" desert from the north, to Pakistan from the east, to Kerman from the west and to Khash city from the south. Most of the people are of Aryan origin and speak Persian, Baluchi, Sistani, Kermani, Yazdi and Khorasani languages and dialects.
The clothing of the people of Sistan & Baluchestan differs due to the location and time. Clothing worn during work, joy and mourning in different seasons of the year varies according to social classes in the groups of women, men, children and adolescents. The garments of Sistani's people are mainly made up of gowns, turbans, shirts and pants, and mostly in white colour. Men's shirt is tall and down to the knee. Also, Sistani men wear jackets on their shirts, which they call "Jelizgheh". Sistani women's dress is a kind of needle-worked that is used on the brink of collar and sleeves and is called"SiahDoozi". They also put a rectangular turban on.
The garments of Baloch men and women is very simple, yet beautiful and suitable for the Balochistan climate. Generally, Balochi men's clothing includes loose-fitting shirt and trousers along with a headscarf or turban, often in white. In the making and decoration of Baloch women's clothes, the unique arts of so-called needlework and Parivarwork are artistically used especially on the front, the sleeves, the long pocket of the front, as well as the margin of the pants at the bottom. The colour and style of these knitted ornaments in different parts of Baluchistan is slightly different.
